Sleeper Agent

An agent who becomes a citizen of another country and performs intelligence activities. Called sleeper agents because they "go to sleep" -- remain dormant until called on for subversive or terrorist activities -- carrying on with their daily lives.

Before joining FOXHOUND, Liquid Snake was inserted in the Middle East as a sleeper agent for the SIS (Britain's Secret Intelligence Service).
